UPCAT COVERAGE 2027

The four official subtests

The University of the Philippines identifies four UPCAT subtests: Language Proficiency, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics, and Science. Language Proficiency and Reading Comprehension include English and Filipino.

UP does not publish a permanent, detailed topic-by-topic syllabus. The list below is an evidence-informed preparation framework compiled from established school competencies, multiple UPCAT review materials, Teacher Abi diagnostics, and recurring UPCAT-style question patterns. It is a practical review guide—not an official prediction of the questions that will appear.

How to use this guide: Do not try to memorize the list. Take the free diagnostics, identify weak foundations, and use the Student Hub to track what you have studied and what deserves attention next.
SUBTEST 1

Language Proficiency Coverage

Language Proficiency measures accurate, clear, and appropriate use of English and Filipino. Review vocabulary through context and relationships, then practice grammar and organization through complete sentences and paragraphs.

Filipino

SUBTEST 2

Reading Comprehension Coverage

Reading questions measure what a passage states, implies, and accomplishes. The same skills may appear in English or Filipino and in prose, poetry, informational texts, or visual data.

SUBTEST 3

Mathematics Coverage

UPCAT-style Mathematics rewards efficient reasoning, representation, and application—not lengthy computation alone. Practice without a calculator and learn to translate words, graphs, tables, and diagrams into mathematics.

Number Sense

Consumer Math

Algebra and Functions

Geometry

Coordinate Geometry and Trigonometry

Sequences, Rates, and Logic

SUBTEST 4

Science Coverage

Science questions may ask for factual knowledge, but many require interpretation of experiments, graphs, diagrams, mechanisms, or evidence. Review why processes happen and how changing one condition affects the result.

57 standalone Science reviewers are now available across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth and Space Science.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about UPCAT coverage

Does UP publish an official detailed UPCAT syllabus?

UP officially identifies the four subtests, but it does not publish a permanent topic-by-topic syllabus. Detailed reviewer lists should be treated as preparation frameworks rather than guaranteed coverage.

Will every topic on this page appear in UPCAT 2027?

Not necessarily. The real test samples from a broad range of secondary-school competencies. This guide helps you prepare broadly without claiming to predict individual questions.

Do the Teacher Abi diagnostics cover every topic?

No. A diagnostic has limited items and can measure only the competencies it samples. Unassessed topics should not be treated as mastered or weak.

What should I review first?

Begin with the diagnostics, then prioritize weak foundations that affect several later topics. Continue short maintenance practice in stronger subjects.

Where can I track the topics I have studied?

Use the Teacher Abi Student Hub. Its coverage tracker will let you record topics as not started, studying, reviewed, or confident while keeping diagnostic evidence separate.

Are Teacher Abi reviewers official UP materials?

No. Teacher Abi produces independent educational resources and original practice. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of the Philippines.

MYTH OR FACT?

UPCAT myths worth clearing up

Myth: I need to master every topic before taking practice tests.

Fact: Diagnostics help you decide which topics deserve the most attention. You do not need perfect preparation before establishing a baseline.

Myth: The UPCAT only tests memorization.

Fact: Many items require interpretation, application, elimination, and reasoning using familiar secondary-school concepts.

Myth: One bad diagnostic score means I cannot pass.

Fact: A diagnostic is a starting measurement, not an admissions result. Its value is showing you where focused improvement is possible.

Myth: The longest study session is always the best.

Fact: Consistent, focused review with error analysis usually helps more than exhausting sessions you cannot sustain.

Myth: I should spend all my time on my strongest subject.

Fact: Strong areas need maintenance, but your largest gains often come from repairing weak foundations.

Myth: Review-center competency lists are the official UPCAT syllabus.

Fact: UP names four subtests but does not publish a permanent detailed item-by-item blueprint. Treat review frameworks as evidence-based preparation guides.

TEST-DAY REMINDERS

What to bring—and what to leave behind

Bring only what is required

  • Printed test permit
  • School ID or valid government-issued ID
  • At least two good-quality pencils
  • Sharpener and rubber eraser
  • Water and snacks

Do not use during the test

  • Cellphones
  • Smartwatches
  • Calculating devices
  • Cameras

Follow the exact instructions on your current test permit.

Arrival reminder: The official bulletin currently instructs morning examinees to be at the test center by 6:00 AM and afternoon examinees by 12:00 PM. Check your own test permit and follow the date, session, test center, and arrival instructions printed there.

Last-week checklist

Why protect your sleep? Avoid trading most of your sleep for last-minute cramming. Sleep helps stabilize newly learned information, while disrupted or irregular sleep can reduce next-day attention and academic performance. Keep a regular sleep schedule and use late evenings for light review—not all-night study.
Evidence: an experimental study found better retention after sleep than after an equivalent period awake, while adolescent research links fragmented sleep with poorer next-day mathematics performance. Sleep and memory study · Adolescent sleep and mathematics study
FUN STUFF & CONFIDENCE RESETS

Preparation should not feel heavy every minute.

60-second reset

When your brain feels stuck, pause before forcing another question.

Unclench your jaw. Drop your shoulders. Breathe in for four counts, out for six, three times. Then solve one approachable item.

Today’s permission slip

You are allowed to have an imperfect study day.

Do the smallest useful version: review one mistake, learn one concept, or answer five focused questions. Small work still counts.

Quick confidence check

Progress is easier to notice when you name it.

Finish this sentence: “Compared with last week, I now understand ______ better.” Write it in your notes before continuing.
KEEP THIS HUB HANDY

Return whenever you need your next step.

Your settings and progress are stored only in this browser. Bookmark this page if you plan to use it regularly.
