An analogy asks for sameness of relationship

Do not ask which choice merely resembles C. Describe every change from A to B, then perform those changes on C.

Inventory: outer shape, inner symbol, fill, marker, angle, and mark count.
Map: state each A-to-B change as an operation.
Apply: perform the same operations on C only.
Verify: reject any choice that misses one operation.
DO IT FAST

Use INVENTORY → MAP → APPLY → AUDIT

  1. INVENTORY: compare A and B feature by feature.
  2. MAP: translate differences into exact operations, such as rotate 90° or move the marker one corner.
  3. APPLY: make every operation to C without borrowing B’s appearance.
  4. AUDIT: compare the result with each option one feature at a time.
GUIDED TRY

Track a component transfer

  1. Count the components in the left and right compartments.
  2. One component leaves the left side.
  3. One component of the other form appears on the right.
  4. Apply the same transfer to C.
Preserve the total while transferring one component from left to right.
ACET-LEVEL WALKTHROUGH

Overlay and cancellation require structural comparison

Inventory: identify each horizontal and vertical segment.
Cancel: remove segments specified by the A-to-B operation.
Preserve: retain every segment not affected by the operation.
Near match: an option may preserve the correct number of lines but the wrong lines.

QUICK ANSWERS

Figure Analogies FAQ

Should I compare B directly with C?

No. First derive the operation from A to B; then apply that operation to C.

What if several features change?

List each change separately and require the answer to satisfy the complete list.

Why do distractors look almost correct?

They are designed to apply only part of the A-to-B transformation.

Does the outer shape always change?

No. An unchanged feature may be an invariant that must remain unchanged in the answer.

What is the fastest final check?

Audit outer shape, inner symbol, fill, marker, angle, and mark count in the same order every time.
