Ang bawat salita ay binubo ng mga pantig. Ang pantig ay galaw ng bibig, saltik ng dila na may kasabay na tunog ng lalamunan o walang antalang bugso ng tinig sa pagbigkas ng salita.
Mahalagang matutunan ng isang mag-aaral ang pagpapantig ng mga salita dahil ito ay makatutulong sa pagpapabilis magbasa. Dadgdag pa na matutunan din nilang bumuo ng bagong salita sa pamamagitan ng pagdadagdag ng titik o pantig.
Narito ang isang maikling pagsusulit. Pantigin ang mga salita sa ibaba at isulat kung ilang pantig ang bumubuo sa bawat isa:

_____ 2.) katutubo
_____ 3.) sa
_____ 4.) hindi
_____ 5.) silid-aralan
_____ 6.) itim
_____ 7.) po
_____ 8.) nararamdaman
