How to take this test

Twenty-five questions in thirty minutes gives you a little over one minute per item, but the passages take part of that time too.

  1. Read for structure. Track the main point, the author’s position, and what each paragraph is doing.
  2. Go back to the passage. For detail questions, verify the relevant line instead of relying on memory.
  3. Keep inference tied to evidence. A good inference is supported by the passage even if it is not stated word for word.
  4. Watch choices that are too strong. Words such as always, never, or completely can make a tempting answer inaccurate.
  5. Do not reread the whole passage for every question. Return to the part that matters.
  6. Mark and move when needed. Finish the easier questions first, then return with the time left.

These are general standardized-test strategies, not official Ateneo test instructions.

How to take this test

Use the 50 minutes as a real diagnostic. The point is to see what you can answer without outside help and where time starts to become a problem.

  1. Think of 40 seconds as your average per item. Quick grammar and vocabulary questions should leave more time for paragraph and organization items.
  2. Do a clean first pass. If an item is taking too long, mark it for review and move on.
  3. For grammar, name the problem before choosing. Check agreement, tense, pronouns, modifiers, parallel structure, punctuation, diction, and sentence logic.
  4. For vocabulary, use the sentence. Predict the meaning or tone from context before comparing the choices.
  5. For organization, follow the logic. Look for opening ideas, reference words, transitions, chronology, support, and conclusions.
  6. Use your last minutes on unanswered and marked items. Do not restart from Question 1 just because time remains.

These are general standardized-test strategies, not official Ateneo test instructions.
