Mission 1: The Missing Key
Emma arrived at the old town library just before sunset. Fridays were her favorite because Mrs. Alvarez always baked oatmeal cookies for children who came to read after school.
But today, nobody was smiling.
Mrs. Alvarez stood behind the circulation desk. Several drawers were open, books were stacked everywhere, and the old brass key rack had one empty hook.
“The Golden Library Key is missing,” Mrs. Alvarez whispered.
Emma looked at the empty hook. “What does it open?”
Mrs. Alvarez lowered her voice. “The Secret Reading Room. It has rare books, old journals, and stories from the founders of our town.”
Emma opened her notebook. “Who was inside the library today?”
Mrs. Alvarez answered, “Leo was cleaning the downstairs hallway. Mia was working in the children’s section. Mr. Cruz was returning an old map. And Pip, the library cat, was somewhere around here.”
